Planning outfits for your family photo shoot can be a challenge, but it should be fun! How do you display your family's style and personality without looking too matchy-matchy? Jordan Elyse Photography has some tips to follow to make sure you look your best!
1. Choose a color palette to style around.
We do not reccomend matching outfits. Base your wardrobe off of a color palette and the pictures will look more natural. Each member of the family will be able to put their own spin their outfit, while still looking coordinated as a group. If you are shooting outside, consider the season and what might look good with the surroundings. If you are shooting inside, take a look at the decor and the colors around.
Having trouble choosing a color? design seeds is FULL of color amazing color combinations that can help you get started.
2. Statement piece or pop of color.
Some families are afriad of bright colors in photos. While we do not reccomend wearing head to toe neon, an accent piece or pop of color be a great way to add some personality to a neutral colored outfit. If you have a color palette in mind, or even if you don’t…shop around to find one statement piece that you love and plan the rest of the outfits around that. It can be a little girls floral dress or a boys plaid shirt for example.
3. Accessories, Textures and Layers
Necklaces, headbands, scarfs, tights, and hats can add a pop of color. You can also layer different pieces and textures for dimension. A subtle stripe or pattern can look great and add visual interest to photos, but best worn in moderation.
4. Plan Ahead
The day of photos can be stressful enough as it is. Trying to get the kids out of the house on time and happy is a challenge in itself. Plan your outfits ahead of time, maybe even give some of the styling responsibility to the kids. Do a dress rehearsal so that you know everyones outfits fit and are comfortable.
5. Be Comfortable
Make sure everyone is in a comfortable outfit, especially if you have younger kids. If the kids are uncomfortable it is going to be hard to get them have fun, smile and show their individual
and most importantly, HAVE FUN!
